The World’s Fastest Bumper Car Hits Three-Digit Speeds

Earlier this week, Top Gear's Colin Furze was beyond enthusiastic to report that he had created a bumper car with 100 horsepower on tap. Produced for the Top Gear character The Stig, the "600cc monster" is world's fastest bumper car. "It's finished and it's FAST ... so fast its the worlds fastest as approved by Guinness World Records," reads the official description of Furze's world's fastest bumper car vignette. Capable of smashing three-figure speeds, the aforementioned speed demon appears to be as fast as a bumper car can get without transforming into a "death trap. Considering the recognition by Guinness World Records, maybe we'll see an "arms race" of sorts between bumper car manufacturers.

You can check out Colin Furze's exclusive look at the world's fastest bumper car above.

Kenzo Takada Given Lifetime Achievement Award by 55th Fashion Editors Club of Japan

Renowned industry veteran and designer Kenzo Takada was awarded one of the Fashion Editors Club of Japan's most illustrious prizes earlier this week. For the 55th Fashion Editors' Club of Japan ceremony, Takada and his storied career were celebrated with the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award. Along with Kenzo Takada's accolades, FACETASM's Hiromichi Ochiai was given the Designer of the Year prize. Previously, influential creatives such as Yohji Yamamoto, Chitose Abe, Marc Jacobs, Giorgio Armani, Karl Lagerfeld, Tom Ford and others have won the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award.

In his acceptance speech, Takada had the following to say:

I’m getting older, so I don’t think I’ll do the same job [I used to do] again. But I would like to work with people from different countries, with different young people, in various areas other than fashion, such as lifestyle and perfume. Even if it’s just a little bit, I would like to keep working ... And in a personal sense, because I’ve been removed from Japan since a fairly young age, I feel like I don’t know Japan very well. So while I can still get around, I’d like to make some time to increase the number of trips I make back to Japan and to stay here longer. I want to see and learn more about Japanese culture and lesser-known places in Japan. My most fun project right now is discovering Japan.

Even though I’m in Paris, I often hear about young Japanese designers who are quite active. But because I’m in Paris, it’s just something I hear. I can’t really see it for myself ... And another thing I’ve noticed lately is that young Japanese people, including young designers, aren’t going abroad as much. When I hear things like that I think it’s a bit sad. I think if young designers have decided on a goal or dream, they should go overseas when they’re younger. Actually being able to experience different things with the five senses really provides great inspiration. I also want them to take more risks while they’re young, and to work hard in a more international way.

Canon Working on a Game Changing New Lens Technology

Canon, one of Forbes' 2017 most reputable companies, announced in an interview with Focus Numerique that they're working on a "new lens technology." Translated from French, the executives from the Japanese camera manufacturer said this outside the Utsunomiya L lense factory in Japan, "Without being permitted to tell you more, we are developing a new technology that will bring real added value and will allow you to take a new type of photo." The notion of a "new type of photo" is interesting considering the two traditional formats now are analog and digital. However, the phrase could potentially mean that a new image format is on the way, adding to .jpeg, .tiff, .exif, .png and .bmp.

Stay tuned for more information as this could be a game changer and let us know what you think the "news lens tech" and "new type of photo" could be in reference to.

Dr. Dre, Magic Johnson and More Join Board for Los Angeles’s 2024 Olympic Bid

Music mogul Dr. Dre, sports icon Magic Johnson, and Los Angeles Lakers owner Jeanie Buss are among the 117 members selected to sit on the board of directors for Los Angeles's 2024 Olympic bid. Thursday's announcement comes a month after Budapest withdrew its bid, leaving the Californian city and Paris as the remaining finalists.

LA 2024 -- the committee's official name -- is led by Chairman Casey Wasserman, CEO Gene Sykes and five Vice Chairs, including: four-time Olympic champion and Director of Athlete Relations Janet Evans, eight-time Paralympic champion Candace Cable, Dream Teamer Magic Johnson, The Walt Disney Company Chairman and CEO Bob Iger, and UNITE HERE (National Hospitality Workers Union) Vice President Maria Elena Durazo.

On top of their business expertise, creativity and imagination, board members have donated more than $50 million USD to finance its operations, as unlike many Olympic bids in the past, LA 2024 will not receive any government funding. However Donald Trump has expressed his support for brining the Olympics back to Los Angeles.

Chairman Casey Wasserman said of the board's announcement:

The world is changing, and so are the needs of the Olympic and Paralympic Movements. This calls for new thinking, and that is precisely what the diverse group of 117 leaders and innovators on LA 2024's Board of Directors brings to LA's bid for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. LA 2024's low-risk proposal has earned 88% public support for the Games and does not require building any new permanent venues. That means that instead of focusing on complex and costly construction projects, we can dedicate this group's incredible energy and creativity to connecting the Games to the future.

The International Olympic Committee concluded an initial two-day review of the two proposed cities yesterday, with each being praised for their "creativity and strong legacy focus." IOC Chairman Patrick Baumann said at the close of the two-day meeting that "The Commission's work is just beginning, but it is already clear that both candidates have embraced the spirit of Olympic Agenda 2020... Both proposals incorporate well-known locations in these two great cities, and would deliver an excellent experience for athletes, spectators and other Games participants."

The IOC will announce the host city in Lima, Peru on September 13, 2017.

adidas Drops a Laceless Take on the Climacool 1

Originally released back in the early 2000s, the Climacool 1 was one of the more unique adidas runners to hit the shelves in recent decades thanks to its revolutionary airflow design. Resurrected last spring, the kicks have recently been the subject of a unique makeover. Dubbed the Climacool 1 CMF, the new design stays true to the overall aesthetic of the Torsion-assisted original, but ditches lacing entirely in favor of a unique interlocking set of Velcro straps that attach at the eyestay.

After debuting in "Tactile Green" back in January, the new take on the Climacool 1 -- which, with a modified sole unit, was a staple of the Three Stripes' James Bond-designed collections for David Beckham -- is, fittingly, available now via UNDEFEATED in clean black and white colorways for $120 USD per pair.

LA’s Famed Eggslut Makes Its Way to New York

Chefs Club is located across the street from Supreme on Lafayette Street in New York and just like the streetwear brand, it welcomes in chefs from all over for collaborative menus and special appearances. Opening a new, more casual location a few blocks down on Spring Street, Chefs Club Counter offers diners breakfast, lunch and dinner selections just like its older brother but with a more fast-paced environment. On the opening lineup is one of LA's most famous breakfast sandwich shops, Eggslut, helmed by chef Alvin Cailan.

With a following that waits for hours on the West Coast to get a taste of its famous Slut and Fairfax creations, the shop has also added a SoHo Salmon to the mix for the East Coast. Fans can expect the lines in New York to rival that of Supreme's on release day. Additional options at the new Chefs Club Counter include duck rice by George Mendes and Jean-Georges' hamburger for lunch and dinner.

We're left wondering if Action Bronson will make a guest appearance since he's the master of making "the perfect f*cking sandwich."

Snapchat Introduces New Searchable Stories Feature

Snapchat is making a fundamental change with the latest addition to its app: searchable stories. Using machine learning, the Evan Spiegel-led social media giant will now allow users to search over one million stories culled from photo and video submissions to the "Our Story" feature. Those machine-driven offerings will then appear alongside the app's employee-curated stories.

As Business Insider points out, the move is undoubtedly profit-driven: though Snapchat isn't planning to immediately monetize search, the addition opens up future advertising opportunities for the company, which officially went public earlier this month.

Check out the searchable stories in action below and look for the update now on the latest versions of both the iOS and Android apps.
