LucasFilm has announced that its standalone Star Wars story series -- Rogue One -- has begun principal photography. Slated for a December 2016 release, the new series will revolve around the story of resistance fighters who have united to steal plans to the dreaded Death Star. Gareth Edwards (of Godzilla and Monsters fame) has been enlisted to helm the film, which will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy. According to Kennedy, “Rogue One takes place before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope and will be a departure from the saga films but have elements that are familiar to the Star Wars universe. It goes into new territory, exploring the galactic struggle from a ground-war perspective while maintaining that essential Star Wars feel that fans have come to know." The cast will include Felicity Jones, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen (of Ip Man), and more. Learn more about the upcoming film at StarWars.com.
