Hermés 2014 Spring/Summer Collection

Hosted at the Cordeliers cloisters outside of picturesque Bordeaux, the men of Hermés' spring/summer collection for 2014 allowed us to re-think previous conceptions of the refined French luxury label. Arranged with a casual elegance that upheld expectations of a polished collection, the garments evoked an easygoing attitude by avoiding bringing formal elements to the forefront. While the simplicity may have left aspects of the presentation overlooked, the choice of patterns and textures remained diverse, with the remainder of the collection locked down by greys, blues and a shade of maroon used throughout. Subscribing to a rather safe approach for this season, Hermés did not fail to please with on-point slim-fitting silhouettes and a painlessly-understated direction at the core.

Staple Design x Strada Customs Trackster Bicycle

The far reaching influence of Staple's pigeon icon has met with fellow New Yorkers at Strada Customs for a collaborative Trackster Bicycle. Delivering an abstract design based around a grey, black and pink "pigeon" colorway, the bike itself is assembled with high-end components, starting with a chromaly steel base and touched up with hand-painted details by one of the finest personalized bicycle services New York has to offer. While the compelling colorway should not cause passersby too much difficulty to recognize, the design remains ambiguous for this dually-branded project, which is set to release in very limited numbers.

Dior Homme 2014 Spring Collection

At Dior Homme, Kris Van Assche mixed formal and informal to the upbeat sounds of Pet Shop Boys. The minimal, tailored looks and high-low combinations -- shaded in a muted palette of burgundy and black -- may have been expected, but spring's real surprise was choice. From boxy-cut suits to elongated silhouettes and athletic fits, there was a focus on "lots of choice within an idea," a concept that was echoed in the finale's mirrored maze, along with the infinite possibilities presented by geometric patchworks.

MIHARAYASUHIRO 2014 Spring Collection

MIHARAYASUHIRO may have been inspired by the yakuza last season but for spring, the designer referenced a more mainstream -- and legal -- segment of Japanese culture. The print-heavy, manga-influenced collection featured feather and bonsai-like motifs on everything from lightweight suiting to knitwear and tees. Like the best shows this season, there was a healthy mix of tailored silhouettes and relaxed sportswear, highlighted by manga-inspired grooming and a case of the blues.

Damir Doma 2014 Spring Collection

When Parisian-based designer Damir Doma stepped into his presentation and collection Fall/Winter 2013, he went a decidedly futuristic and modern route. While Spring 2014 is not as "futuristic" per se, the collection is nothing short of progressive and forward-looking. Spring 2014 sees Doma experimenting with his traditional design tenants such as pleated pants, balloon-cut tops, loose trousers and cropped jackets, while also infusing offbeat material and textile choices. In terms of color palette, Doma employs relatively neutral hues and color selections while integrating bolder colors on occassion via rich blues and light purple.

S&H Athletics 2014 Spring Preview

Recently introduced at the Paris Capsule Show, designers Sam Shipley and Jeff Halmos (Shipley & Halmos) gave a first look at their new sportswear brand, S&H Athletics. Paying homage to classic sporting attire set in the '50s - '60s, S&H Athletics offers truly vintage-inspired silhouettes, but with a modern twist. Manifesting from the love of sports and childhood memories, the line has seen over a year in development, and although more casual, will still keep the same level of quality as found in the Shipley & Halmos brand. “There have always been athletic-inspired pieces within the Shipley & Halmos collection. With this new line, we can really expand on a whole new brand concept that’s a little more casual, street and sports driven – but still with the same quality and lighthearted sense of humor customers have come to appreciate from S&H,” explains Halmos.

Set for a early 2014 global launch, the collection ranges from $40-$95 USD for cut and sew knit styles, $145 USD for denim, and $225 USD for jackets. For more information along with release dates, check out the S&H Athletics homepage.
